I wrote this as a Facebook status three years ago. And it is still true today……
This morning I left the faucet dripping by mistake. And God started to speak to me. He said, “These are my people, they don’t understand the cost of their constant dripping of sin.” He reminded me of the quote by Lucretius, “Constant dripping hollows out a stone.” Anyone who pays a water bill understands how that dripping faucet can cost more than expected.
Young people tend to think, “oh it’s just a little water”, but it adds up. Some people never understand this until they have to pay the bill themselves unfortunately. I think because we didn’t actually have to pay the bill for our salvation through Christ, that we don’t always understand the true cost of sin…… Or that we can still pay that bill one day if we aren’t careful.
There is a faucet of sin dripping in the lives of people claiming to be Christian. Saying they stand on a solid rock, but allowing constant sin to drip on that foundation. God is saying SHUT IT OFF.
See, God understands that all have sinned (Romans 3:23), but He also understands the difference between a mistake or stumble and a practice.
In Galations 5:19-21 He speaks of sin of the flesh. He speaks in vs 21 about those who PRACTICE certain things WILL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD. (Read the entire chapter to understand how to walk in the Spirit of Truth and righteousness. )
I studied math and still teach it. I always tell my students that if you practice you will get the hang of it and it will become easier and more natural for you to do it. The same applies to life. What you practice, will become easier for you. It will become more natural to you. You will become that person based on thing you practice. Most people consider me a “math person” because I practice math….
So think about what kind of person you are if you practice sin……
Definition of practice – the actual application or use of an idea, belief, or method. Repeated exercise in or performance of an activity or skill so as to acquire or maintain proficiency in it.
Definition of constant – remaining the same over a period of time. Unchangingly faithful and dependable.
You have to ask, are you OK with sinning? Are you in practice of sin? Are you consistent with sin? If yes to any of these, understand that it’s not hidden. God requires more from you dear Christian friend. But please understand and consistently remind yourself that His grace is sufficient. This means He will help you to walk in the Spirit consistently and not in the flesh…….. The final thought I want you to truly reflect on….. Your practice is your choice…… Have you truly chosen Christ?
